Welcome!

"when used in folk and bluegrass music, the instrument can also be referred to as an upright bass, standup bass, bass fiddle, ...doghouse bass, dog-house, ...or bunkhouse bass." (Wikipedia)

My father, Charlie, played the bass in a Canadian band in the 1950s hence the name!

Music – I grew up in a very musical household. Dad liked country, jazz, big bands; Mom loved the standards, and the crooners. I was a Top 40 person until I heard an all-oldies weekend on 1050 CHUM in the early 1970s and got hooked on that genre. My friends exposed me to everything from classical to bagpipes to techno and even rap (still not my cup of tea). I love the odd, the obscure, the unusual and the outstanding in the world of music!

Some of my other interests, which include Local History, the Welland Canals, Family History and “Other Stuff”, which used to be found on this website, will soon be found at my new site fredwaterer.com
